Premium Car Hand Wash and Exterior Decontamination
A premium hand wash removes dirt without grinding it into the paint, then decontamination lifts the fallout and bonded particles a wash leaves behind. It is done by hand in an enclosed bay, by appointment. It is also the first step of every coating job, and the gentlest way to keep coated paint clean.

How it works
- 1Pre-rinse and foam
Loose dirt is lifted before anything touches the paint.
- 2Contact wash
Clean mitts and a pH-neutral shampoo, panel by panel, top to bottom.
- 3Wheels and arches
Wheels, rims and arches are cleaned with separate tools to avoid cross-contamination.
- 4Decontamination
Bonded fallout, tar and mineral deposits are lifted so the paint feels smooth.
- 5Dry and finish
The car is dried with soft towels and checked panel by panel.
How is a premium hand wash different from a normal car wash?
The difference is contact. Automatic brushes and dirty towels drag grit across the paint, which is the main cause of swirl marks. A premium hand wash uses clean mitts, proper shampoo, separate tools for wheels, and soft drying towels.
A decontamination step then removes what washing cannot: fallout, tar and mineral deposits that make paint feel rough.
How do you remove water spots safely?
Fresh spots usually lift with a gentle wash or a mild acidic spot remover used correctly. Etched spots, where minerals have marked the clear coat, may need polishing. Rubbing a dry spot is the worst option, as it scratches.
See our water spot removal guide. Etching that will not wash off belongs to paint correction.
What should you do about bird droppings and tree sap?
Remove them early. Bird droppings are acidic and can etch clear coat as the paint heats and cools. Soften with water, lift gently and never scrub dry. Tree sap needs a suitable solvent after washing.
The steps are in our guide to removing bird droppings and tree sap. Coated paint releases both more easily.
How often should you hand wash, and what about coated cars?
Every one to two weeks suits most cars, sooner after bird droppings or heavy rain. Coated cars should still be washed regularly, because a dirty coating loses its water beading.
For coated cars, the better option is KlarMAINTENANCE, which adds an inspection, KlarSHIELD and a pure-water rinse.

Questions about premium hand wash
Why not use an automatic car wash?
Brush washes drag shared grit across many cars, which causes fine swirl marks, and drying is often incomplete. A hand wash is slower but far gentler. If you have a coating or fresh paint, avoiding brush washes protects the finish.
Does a hand wash remove water spots?
It removes fresh mineral deposits. Spots that have etched into the clear coat will not wash off and need polishing. We check at the wash and tell you which kind you have before suggesting any further work. Etched spots are better corrected than washed repeatedly.
Is a hand wash needed before coating?
Yes. Washing and decontamination are the first stages of every coating job, because any contamination left on the paint is sealed under the coating. This is included in the coating quote. Ask us to list the preparation steps in your quote and we will do so, so you can see exactly what is covered.
Do you clean wheels and brake dust?
Yes. Wheel and rim detailing is part of the service, with cleaners chosen for your wheel finish. Brake dust is corrosive when baked on, so regular cleaning protects the wheel as well as its look. We use separate tools for wheels so brake dust never touches the paint.
How often should I have my car hand washed?
Every one to two weeks suits most cars, and sooner after bird droppings or heavy rain. If you prefer a professional wash less often, a good home routine and periodic maintenance visits work well together. Wash more often if the car is parked under trees.
