Paint Correction in Singapore
Paint correction polishes away a thin layer of clear coat to level out swirl marks, water-spot etching, oxidation and light scratches. How much can be removed depends on the depth of the damage and the thickness of the paint. We assess both at the free assessment and quote only the correction your car needs.

What paint correction at Klar includes
- Paint correction and swirl mark removal
- Scratch and oxidation reduction
- Water spot and stain removal
- Gloss enhancement and paint restoration
- Exterior decontamination wash
- Headlight restoration
- Wheel and rim detailing
How it works
- 1Free assessment
We inspect the paint panel by panel under light and explain what can and cannot be corrected.
- 2Wash and decontamination
Contaminants are removed so they are not dragged across the paint during polishing.
- 3Test and plan
We test a small area to choose the right polish and pad, and agree the number of stages.
- 4Machine correction
Panels are polished in stages until swirl marks and etching are levelled as far as the paint allows.
- 5Inspection and protection
The finish is inspected under light, then protected with a coating where you have chosen one.
What does paint correction actually do?
Paint correction removes a very thin layer of clear coat so that the surface is level again. Swirl marks, water-spot etching and light oxidation sit in that layer, so levelling it removes them rather than hiding them.
Fillers and glazes can hide marks for a few washes. Correction removes the marks themselves. Clear coat is finite, so we correct only as much as the paint needs and leave the rest.
What can and cannot be corrected?
Light to moderate swirl marks, water-spot etching, oxidation and shallow scratches can usually be improved or removed. Scratches that have cut through the clear coat into colour or primer cannot be polished out, and chips need touch-up or repainting.
Oxidation and clear coat failure look similar but need different handling. Our article on oxidation against clear coat damage explains the difference. We mark which panels we expect to improve fully and which will only improve partly.
Do you need correction before a ceramic or graphene coating?
If the paint has visible defects, yes. A coating locks in the surface under it, including swirl marks, so they are corrected first. If the paint is clean, correction is not needed and you do not pay for it.
Correction and coating are often booked together. See ceramic coating and graphene coating.
How is paint correction priced?
The price follows the car's size, the paint's condition and the correction stages needed. A light refinement is one stage. Heavier swirl marks and etching can require more.
Because stages cannot be known without inspection, we quote after the free assessment. The quote is fixed before work starts. See how a Klar quote is built.
How do you stop swirl marks coming back?
Most swirl marks come from washing: dry wipes, dirty mitts, automatic car wash brushes and coarse towels. Use a clean mitt, wash from the top down, rinse often and dry with a soft towel.
A coating makes the surface slicker and easier to clean gently, but it does not prevent swirl marks by itself. Our swirl mark guide covers causes and routine.

Questions about paint correction
How do I know if my car needs paint correction?
Look at the paint under a single bright light, such as a torch or direct sun. Fine circular swirls, dull patches, a rough feel after washing or etched rings from water spots are signs. We confirm what is correctable at the free assessment.
Can paint correction remove all scratches?
No. Light scratches in the clear coat can usually be improved or removed. Scratches deep enough to reach colour or primer cannot be polished out safely, and removing more clear coat risks thinning the paint too far. We explain the limit panel by panel.
Does paint correction remove water spots?
Fresh mineral deposits often wash or wipe off. Etched water spots, where minerals have marked the clear coat, need polishing, and depth decides whether they come out fully. Our water-spot article explains how to tell the two apart. Light etching often improves, and we can show you the result on a test area first.
Will correction thin out my paint?
Any polishing removes a small amount of clear coat. We correct only what the paint needs, test first and avoid repeated heavy correction on the same car. If your paint is already thin, we say so and limit the work.
How long does paint correction take?
It depends on the car and the stages needed, so we confirm the schedule at the assessment rather than quote a number in advance. Correction is done by appointment in an enclosed bay, and a coating on top adds preparation and curing time.
