You need to do very little before coating day. Clear the car of personal items, note any marks or damage you already know about, avoid using wax or sealant products beforehand and tell the studio how you use the car. The preparation that matters most, cleaning and paint correction, is done by the technicians.

Do I need to wash or polish the car before coating day?
No. Surface preparation is part of the coating job, and it is done by the technicians in the bay. A coating bonds to what is underneath it, so the paint is decontaminated, assessed and corrected as needed before any layer goes on.
Washing the car yourself the day before is fine if you want to, but avoid anything that adds product to the paint, such as quick detailer sprays, waxes or sealants.
What should I tell the studio before the appointment?
Tell us how you use and park the car, and point out anything you already know about the paint. This lets the assessment focus on what matters to you.
- Marks, scratches, chips or touch-ups you are aware of.
- Past paintwork, previous coatings or wraps, if any.
- Whether the car is parked under cover or outdoors, and how often it is washed.
- What finish you are hoping for, such as more gloss or easier washing.

What should I clear out of the car?
Remove personal belongings and valuables, and take anything loose out of the boot and door pockets. Technicians work around the whole body of the car, and an empty cabin means nothing gets moved or missed.
- Phone holders, dashcam memory cards and parking devices you want to keep.
- Child seats and loose items on the seats or floor.
- Anything stuck on the paint or glass, such as stickers or removable decals you want to keep.
What should I avoid in the days before?
Avoid applying anything new to the paint. Waxes, sealants and spray-on gloss products can sit on the surface and make it harder to see the true condition of the paint at assessment.
- Do not wax or seal the car just before coating day.
- Avoid automatic brush washes, which can add fine swirl marks.
- Do not attempt to polish out marks yourself, as heavy polishing removes clear coat.
What happens at the assessment on the day?
A technician inspects the paint under lighting, discusses what you want and what the paint needs, and gives you a fixed quote before any work starts. The assessment is free.
The coating job itself follows a set order: wash and decontamination, paint correction where needed, coating application in an enclosed, dust-free bay, and curing with infrared lamps. A Signature treatment takes at least 6 man-hours, so plan to be without the car for the work. Ask us about timing when you book.
What should I do after I collect the car?
Follow the aftercare guidance you are given, and plan regular maintenance so the coating keeps working. Avoid harsh cleaners and abrasive washing, and wash the car by hand with a pH-balanced shampoo.

Questions
Should I wax my car before a ceramic coating?
No. Wax and sealants sit on the paint and have to be removed before a coating can bond properly. Leave the car as it is, or give it a plain wash. The technicians decontaminate and prepare the surface as part of the coating job.
Do I need to fix scratches before ceramic coating?
Not before you arrive. Paint correction is assessed at the free appointment, and we correct what is necessary before coating. Tell us about any marks you know of so the quote and plan cover them.
Can I leave my belongings in the car?
It is better not to. Take out valuables and personal items, and clear loose things from the boot, seats and door pockets so the technicians can work around the whole car without moving anything.
Do I need an appointment for the assessment?
Yes, Klar Details works by appointment. Message us on WhatsApp or call to book a free assessment at Toh Guan Road East, and send photos of the car beforehand if you can.
