Interior Car Detailing in Singapore: Keep Your Car Clean, Fresh and Comfortable

Published 10 Oct 2026 · Updated 1 Nov 2026 · Klar Details team

Interior detailing is a deep, careful clean of every surface inside your car, not a quick vacuum. It removes dirt, bacteria and odours from seats, carpets, panels and vents. Most cars benefit from it every 6 to 12 months, and more often if used heavily.

What is interior car detailing?

It is a structured clean of the whole cabin, using the right method for each material. Fabric, leather, plastics, glass and carpets each need different products and pressure.

Typical work includes thorough vacuuming, cleaning of seats and carpets, treatment of panels and vents, glass cleaning and protection of leather and trim. Our KlarINTERIOR service uses controlled-pressure steam, which loosens grime without soaking materials.

What are the signs your interior needs detailing?

  • A stale or musty smell that returns after you air the car.
  • Sticky or dull patches on the steering wheel, gear lever and door handles.
  • Dust that settles again soon after cleaning, especially in vents.
  • Stains or darkened areas on seats and carpets.
  • Mist or film on the inside of the windscreen.

Singapore's humidity adds to this. Damp air encourages odours and mould in fabric and carpet, particularly if the car sits closed in the sun.

What happens during an interior session?

The order matters, because dust falls downwards and cleaning should follow it.

  1. Inspection of the cabin and any problem areas.
  2. Dry vacuum from the roof lining down to the carpets.
  3. Steam and cleaning of seats, carpets, panels and vents.
  4. Leather conditioning or fabric treatment as suited.
  5. Glass cleaning and final check.

You can read more about the method on our interior detailing service page.

How often should you detail your car interior?

As a general rule, every 6 to 12 months for a private car. If the car carries children, pets or food often, lean towards the shorter end.

Cars used for private-hire driving see far more passengers and should be done quarterly. People spend many hours a month inside their cars, so the cabin air and surfaces matter more than most owners realise. Our related guide, interior detailing beyond a deep clean, goes further into why.

What can detailing not fix?

Detailing cannot reverse every problem. Deep burns, cuts in leather, sun-faded plastics and old, set-in dye stains may only improve, not disappear.

Odours are the same. Surface odours clear well, but a smell that comes from a spill soaked deep into foam, or from a source such as pests, needs the source dealt with. Where bacteria or pests are suspected, an NEA-approved fumigation treatment is a separate step we can discuss after inspection.

Questions

Is interior detailing the same as a car wash vacuum?

No. A vacuum service removes loose debris from the floor and seats. Detailing cleans and treats the actual surfaces, including seats, carpets, panels, vents and trim, and reaches the corners and seams that a quick service skips. The result is a cabin that is cleaner, fresher and better cared for.

Will steam cleaning damage my seats?

Controlled-pressure steam is gentle when used correctly. It lifts dirt and bacteria without soaking the material. Our technicians adjust the method for fabric, leather and delicate trim, and follow it with the right conditioning or drying step so the cabin is comfortable to use straight away.

How long does interior detailing take?

It depends on the size of the car and how heavily the interior is soiled. A cabin used daily by a family takes longer than a lightly used one. We will give you an expected timing at the free assessment, so you can plan around it and know when to collect your car.

Can detailing remove cigarette or food smells?

Surface odours usually clear well with deep cleaning. Strong smells soaked into foam or the headliner may only reduce. Where the cause is bacterial or pest-related, we recommend a targeted NEA-approved treatment after inspection, so the source is dealt with and not just masked.
