Bought a New Car in Singapore? When Should You Get It Detailed?

Published 10 Oct 2026 · Updated 1 Nov 2026 · Klar Details team

The best time to detail a new car is soon after collection, before the paint meets months of sun, rain and road grime. Even factory paint is rarely flawless. A short inspection, light correction where needed and a coating give the finish a clean start.

Does a new car really need detailing?

Yes, though not for the reason most people expect. A new car is clean, but it has travelled. Between the factory, the port, the lot and the showroom, paint is often washed and handled many times, and fine swirls and light marks from this are common.

The dealer may also apply a quick polish to hide them. That can look good on delivery day, then fade after a few washes.

Detailing early lets you protect the paint while it is at its best, rather than repairing it later.

When is the right time to book?

Soon after collection, and before the car sees heavy daily use. Many owners book within the first few weeks. The paint is fresh, there is little to correct, and a coating bonds to a clean, prepared surface.

If your car has a few weeks of road use already, that is fine. We simply inspect first and decide what preparation is needed.

Our new car detailing packages are built around this: inspection, preparation, protection, then a maintenance plan.

Does new paint need correction first?

Often a light one. Coatings lock in whatever is underneath, so any swirl or haze left on the paint stays visible beneath it. Preparation is what decides how the finished car looks.

A free assessment shows what the paint needs. Some cars need only a thorough decontamination wash and a refining polish. Others, particularly dark colours that show every mark, benefit from more work.

We would rather correct only what is needed than polish more than the paint requires.

Ceramic or graphene for a new car?

Both protect against UV, water, dirt and chemicals. The difference is mainly in expected life and feel.

OptionTypical lifeGood for
KlarCOAT Signature CeramicAbout 1 to 2 years with minimal upkeepOwners wanting dependable gloss and easy washing
KlarGRAPHENEUp to 3 to 5 years with proper maintenanceOwners wanting longer protection and strong water repellency

Both depend on proper aftercare. For a deeper comparison, read our guide on ceramic versus graphene in Singapore's humid climate.

What happens after the coating is applied?

Treat the first weeks gently. Wash by hand with a pH-balanced shampoo, dry with clean microfibre, and avoid automatic brush washes.

Then keep a maintenance rhythm. A half-yearly visit keeps the coating performing, refreshes the top layer and gives us a chance to check the paint. If you drive an electric or hybrid car, our processes are safe for EVs, and we have in-house charging at the workshop.

Questions

Should I wait a few months before coating a new car?

There is no need to wait. Modern factory paint is cured by the time the car reaches you. Coating earlier means less to correct and earlier protection from sun, rain and road grime. If you are unsure about your particular car, our free assessment will advise you on timing.

Can I skip paint correction on a new car?

Sometimes, if the paint is in very good condition. A close inspection under proper lighting will tell. Skipping correction when swirls or haze are present means they stay sealed under the coating, so the finish will not look as clean as it could. We assess first and recommend only what is needed.

Is detailing a new car worth it for EVs?

EV paint is the same exposed finish as any other car, so it benefits equally from protection. Our workshop uses EV-safe processes, has in-house charging, and has worked on Tesla, BYD and Polestar vehicles. The process and care are the same, with extra attention around the high-voltage components.

Do I need to leave the car with you for the day?

Exterior coating work cannot be rushed, because preparation, application and curing each take time. A signature exterior treatment takes at least 6 man-hours. We will confirm the timing when you book, and the car stays in an enclosed, dust-free bay while it is with us.
